There was a time when there was the echo of the bandits in Chambal valleys. At that time, too many movies in Bollywood were made on this subject. The bandits were presented glamorously and actors like Amitabh, Dharmendra, Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna were too excited to play the role of a bandit.
In the country where the Ganga flows, let me live, Ganga-Jamuna, My Village, my country, the best films like my country have been seen on this subject. The end of such films ended when the bandits were finished. Although Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen and Tegmanshu Dhulia’s Pan Singh Tomar were later made, these films proved milestone.
Film director Abhishek Chawbey reached the rugged chambal by ‘Sonchidiya‘ and after a long time, he got to see the robbers on the big screen. The story is of 1975. Man Singh (Manoj Bajpei) is the leader of the band of bandits. Advocate Singh (Ranvir Shourie) and Lakhna (Sushant Singh Rajput) are important members of his gang.
Man Singh needs money to buy new weapons. She gets news from Lachhu that there is going to be a marriage in a village where a lot of money and gold are being given. Man Singh and his gang arrive in the village with the intention of robbing. Here, police officer Veerender Gujjar (Ashutosh Rana) also gets the news that the robbers are coming.
The police and the robbers are face to face. Man Singh and his half companions are killed in this encounter. Lawyers, Lakhna and some of their companions are successful in escaping. The lawyer now becomes a gang leader and accuses Lakhna of telling the police that he had betrayed the gang.
Running away from the police, they meet with Indumati Tomar (land tenant). She is accompanied by her sister Sonchidiya, who has been brutally raped. Sonchadiya is required to be hospitalized and she seeks advice from the lawyer. The group of bandits becomes ready for it.
All go to a temple to seek blessings from Goddess. There, Indumati’s husband reaches and tells that Indumati has killed her father in law. He asks the bandits to hand over Indumati. The lawyer is ready, but Lakhan opposes this. Whose thing is considered? Is Indumati help? Do lawyers and lawyers separate? These things come in the answer to the film.
The subject matter of the film has become obsolete but Abhishek Choubey and Sudeep Sharma have written a good story. Layer-by-layer things come out so audiences’ interest remains in the film. The characters of the film have been working too hard. It is shown that no one wants to be a robber and every robber is not bad.
The screenplay has been written in such a way that the film does not seem very serious. There is also scope for laughter and joke. Sudeep’s dialogue plays an important role in this.
As far as deficiencies are concerned, some things are unclear. There are also some ups and downs that are kept to surprise only audiences. In order to keep the film close to reality, the dialect spoken in Chambal rihades has been invented by the characters, which is difficult for every audience to understand. It is difficult to adjust to this in the beginning of the film, but in a matter of minutes, things start getting better. Although subtitles have been given in some prints, but Indian viewers are not accustomed to watching the film in this way. Some prints have been dubbed in Hindi too. If you are going to watch a movie then decide how to watch the movie.
Abhishek Choubey has done a good job as a director. He created a good atmosphere for the film and the best artists made his work easier. Some shots definitely do not match the mood of the film, but the audience for which they have made the film can like it. Abhishek was well aware that when the drama is creating tension and when the humor The potion with the flashback was a bit longer and it had to be shortened.
The acting department of the film is very strong. Sushant Singh Rajput’s performance is kyabil-e-praise and did not seem to be acting. Manoj Bajpayee’s role is not long, but he leaves a deep impact on the performance of his acting. Ranvir Shourie fully judges his character. Entry in the film of the film is quite late, but after the entry of his character, the tension increases in the film. Ashutosh Rana has spoken so loudly that the dialogue seems to be going on.
Music of Vishal Bharadwaj is in line with the mood of the movie and it feels good when watching the film. Anuj raises the appeal of Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography film. He shot the film from many angles and did not panic using the experiment.
If you like something, then ‘Sonchidiya’ can be given chance.
